Means of support

Summary of support schemes

Quota system. The main incentive for the use of renewable energy is a quota system in terms of quota obligations and a certificate trading system. The Electricity Certificates Act obliges electricity suppliers and certain electricity consumers to prove that a certain quota of the electricity supplied by them was generated from renewable sources. Such proof shall be provided by means of tradable certificates allocated to renewable energy producers.

Sweden and Norway introduced a common electricity certificate market on 1 January 2012.

All renewable energy generation technologies are eligible for the incentives applicable in Norway.
