Support schemes

In Ireland, the support scheme for renewable energy sources used in the transport sector is a quota system. This scheme obliges suppliers of fuels to ensure that biofuels make up to a defined percentage of the company’s total annual sale of fuel. Moreover, there is also a grant scheme for the purchase of a (plug-in) hybrid electric car, which in certain cases can be combined with a tax regulation mechanism (Vehicle Registration Tax relief) for electric and (plug-in) hybrid electric car or even with the Accelerated Capital Allowance Scheme (ACA).
