Loan (KfW Environmental Programme)

To support investments in environmentally friendly technologies and environmental protection measures, KfW provides low-interest loans. Besides investments in noise reduction, resource conservation, sewage reduction etc. it also supports investments in transport systems.

Eligible technologies

National and international companies from the manufacturing and service sector and freelancers.

Electricity

Electric vehicles, bicycles and buses in commercial use as well as charging stations (electric, hydrogen and CNG/LNG) are eligible for a low-interest loan. It includes hydrogen, hybrid vehicles with emissions less than 50 g of CO2 per km (Guidelines KfW Environmental Programme p. 2).

Hydrogen

Hydrogen vehicles in commercial use are eligible for a low-interest loan. (Guidelines KfW Environmental Programme p.2)

Amount

The credit period is 2 to 20 years. Up to 100% of the investment costs are eligible for a credit (Guidelines KfW Environmental Programme p.3f). The regular credit limit is EUR 10 million per project, which can however be increased by the approval of the Federal Environment Ministry (Guidelines KfW Environmental Programme p.3).

Process flow

Application: The application forms have to be filed by the borrower’s bank (Guidelines KfW Environmental Programme p.5, 5f).

Additional approval: For low-interest loans higher than EUR 10 million an approval by BMU (Federal Environmental Ministry) is required (Guidelines KfW Environmental Programme p.3).
