Connection to the grid

Plant operators are entitled to connection to the grid after they have obtained a licence from the REWS (Art. 4 SL 545.13). The Regulator may refuse to grant a licence only under the conditions set out in the Electricity Regulations (3rd Schedule SL 545.13).

The following entities do not require a licence:

  • Producers who produce electricity only for his own use and is not connected in parallel to the distribution system and has installed a total peak generation capacity of less than 1,500 kVA.
  • Operators with a total peak generation capacity that is rated up to and including 16 Amps per phase, single-phase or multi-phase, 230/400V AC, and produced solely from renewable energy sources or by cogeneration plants (still, these producers will need to notify the REWS) (1st Schedule SL 545.13).

Plant operators are entitled to connection to the grid after having obtained a licence from the REWS (Art. 4 SL 545.13). The REWS may refuse to enter into a connection agreement only under the conditions set out in the Electricity Regulations (3rd Schedule SL 545.13). The REWS is obliged to communicate its decision on authorisation to the applicant within 6 months (Art. 4(6) SL 545.13).
