The “Solar PV Pilot Scheme” was launched in July 2018 and provides a subsidy for the purchase and installation of a solar PV system and/or battery energy storage system. This will take the form of a once-off payment to a homeowner based on the installation of products which meet the requirements of the scheme. The scheme is expected to operate for 2 years with regular reviews expected every 6 months. Residential homes will be eligible for support once per technology.
Eligible technologies
PV and battery storage is only eligible (ch. 2 “Solar PV Pilot Scheme”).
Solar energy | Eligible (ch. 2 “Solar PV Pilot Scheme”). |

Amount
The amount is set at (ch. 2 “Solar PV Pilot Scheme”):
- Solar PV Systems €700/kWp (up to 2kWp)
- Battery Storage €1,000 (up to 4kWp)
Addressees
All homeowners of dwellings built and occupied before 2011(ch. 4 “Solar PV Pilot Scheme”).
Procedure
Process flow | The process is as follows: - Selection of a registered SEAI solar PV company: interested applicants should contact a SEAI solar PV company that will carry out all necessary works (ch. 5 “Solar PV Pilot Scheme”)
- Application submission: Interested applicants should also log into the SEAI’s website. They should have the Meter Point Reference Number (MPRN), while an eligibility check will be carried out (ch. 7 “Solar PV Pilot Scheme”)
- Completion of works: The interested applicant may come in agreement with the solar PV company, which will complete the necessary works (ch. 7.2 “Solar PV Pilot Scheme”)
- Payment claim: Once the PV installation is completed and commissioned, the applicant may submit a claim for the subsidy. For that reason, the solar PV company will complete a Declaration of Works Form (ch., 7.3 “Solar PV Pilot Scheme”)
- Verification (optional): SEAI should verify that the applicants match the grant claim. Properties may be selected by a random sampling process or may be selected for specific reasons and applicants will be notified by SEAI prior to such inspections. Applicants must grant access to their home within 15 days after SEAI’s request (ch., 11 “Solar PV Pilot Scheme”)
- Payment: SEAI proceeds with the payment of the subsidy to the applicant’s bank account (ch., 7.3 “Solar PV Pilot Scheme”)
